Quality of living and depression in elderly in the home context

Descripción:The aim of this study was to analyze the relationship between quality of life and depressive symptomatology in elderly people living in the home context. It is an epidemiological, transversal, analytical investigation carried out with elderly residents in the urban area of the municipality of Aiquara-BA. The sociodemographic information was obtained through a questionnaire, and the others through validated instruments: Mini Mental Health State Examination; Geriatric Depression Scale; World Health Organization Quality of life and World Health Organization Quality of life-OLD. The data was tabulated in Excel and analyzed in the SPSS software, version 21.0. The Mann Whitney test was used and the variables with p <0.20 were included in a logistic regression model and remained with a level of significance p <0.05. 228 elderly people participated in the study. The prevalence of depressive symptoms was 31.1%. In the final regression model, the physical, psychological, sensory and intimacy domains remained a factor of protection and the social participation domain as a risk factor for depressive symptoms. It is concluded that based on the results obtained it is possible to conclude that the depressive symptomatology is associated with low perception of quality of life in the elderly.
