Descripción:Study the prevalence of overweight, obesity, and associated factors in 5th and 6th grade students from primary school in two municipalities of the Costa Chica de Guerrero. A cross-sectional study was conducted in 5th and 6th grade students from primary school. With prior informed consent, anthropometric measurements of the students were recorded and some variables were analyzed about eating habits, physical activity and hours of watching television. It was found that 16% of the students were overweight and 15% were obese. There was a greater risk of suffering from metabolic disease in the participants who watched television more than 5 hours/day (ORns Cl adj = 1.72, 95% CI 1.27-2.34), while eating four or more times a day had a protective effect (ORns Cl adj = 0.47, 95% CI 0.31-0.72). In the municipalities of Cruz Grande and San Marcos, 5th and 6th grade students have a medium degree of overweight and obesity. This is related to the fact that in these cities sedentary lifestyle is not as marked and tend to do more sport. It’s recommended to decrease the number of hours in front of the television and the promotion of a correct diet are actions that can contribute to the prevention and reduction of overweight and obesity in primary school students.
