Descripción:The relationship between relaxation and compression during brittle defamation is shown in Concepción Creek (central region of Costa Rica). The principal stress axes and the ratio between principal stress magnitudes was determited using slip planes. This preliminary results were compared to the tensional fractures. The north-south compressive stress caused reverse and strike-slip faults, the decompression caused E-W fractures zones. The analysis of these tectonics situations must consider several generations of faults and joints. The different generations must be analized separately. First of all, the number of fracture generations must be recognized, to detemine the direction and relationship between their principal stress axes.
