Plurality of Causes for a University Career Demand, Study of Zone 3 – Ecuador

| Disgrifiad: | There are a plurality of causes that converge in the decision making process when choosing university career. The objective of this work was to review individual, family and social variables, as possible determinants for higher education demands, through a semi-structured survey. This was a descriptive, cross - sectional, survey type, in which 5660 male and female students, aged 16 to 19 years, belonging to zone three of Ecuador, were analyzed by stratified sampling. As result, expectations of professional development are significantly different in gender. Women opt for social science careers while men for the exact sciences. The level of parental education and family income are variables that analyzed at 95% confidence gave a highly significant level meet the demand for higher education. Ji-square test indicates that the motivations that leads to young graduates to pursue higher education significantly differs with respect to gender, while women are motivated in personal satisfaction and better chances of finding employment, for men is earning money and have a title "I earn more money "and" “have a title is well regarded by society". It is concluded that the family and social facts are determinants are categorical when choosing a university career, compared to the individual ones. |
