(Re) Descubrir el poder de la Arquitectura: la tipología como punto de intersección entre el arquitecto y el urbanista

| Descripción: | RESUMENPrevalece en Costa Rica y el mundo una disociación conceptual entre la arquitectura y el urbanismo, asumiendo que el segundo difiere del primero en cantidad y extensión. Esto, en gran parte, obedece al legado modernista del siglo XX donde predomina una valoración del objeto arquitectónico sobre la continuidad formal e histórica de la ciudad. Paralelamente, las nuevas tendencias de la población y la ciudad del siglo XXI demandan mayor complejidad e interdisciplinaridad para ser abordadas.El razonamiento tipológico se propone, entonces, como esa herramienta capaz de negociar entre diversas capas multiescalares de información e incorporar material social, económico y cultural en nuestras decisiones materiales. Más aún, la capacidad de la tipología para generar variación a través del tiempo, que no sucede con su contraparte el modelo, hace de la misma un instrumento lo suficientemente dinámico para abordar la realidad cambiante de la ciudad contemporánea.La metodología se basa en una serie de proyectos que es analizada a través de diferentes lentes discursivos, con el fin de demostrar la naturaleza diagramática de la arquitectura y la proyección estratégica de diversos escenarios urbanos. Se concluye que la tipología, como método de planificación, lejos de ser la solución lineal para un determinado programa, permite al arquitecto establecer un campo para la toma de decisiones y negociación entre las partes interesadas, lo cual empodera al mismo en el proceso de hacer ciudad.ABSTRACTA conceptual dissociation between architecture and urbanism still prevails in Costa Rica and the world, whereby it is assumed that the difference between both is merely a matter of quantity and extension. This is primarily due to the modernist legacy from the twentieth century, which is characterized by an appraisement of the architectural object over the structural and historical continuity of the city. Meanwhile, new social trends and patterns of association in the twenty-first century city call for increasingly complex and interdisciplinary approaches in order to be addressed.It is in this context that typological reasoning is proposed as the only tool capable of negotiating between different layers of information at multiple scales and simultaneously incorporating social, economic and cultural content in our material decisions. Moreover, the ability of type to generate variation over time, which does not occur with its counterpart, the model, makes it a sufficiently dynamic instrument to address the volatile reality of the contemporary city.The adopted methodology is based on a series of projects that are analyzed through different discursive lenses in order to demonstrate the diagrammatic nature of architecture and the strategic projection of alternative urban scenarios. In the end, typological reasoning, far from constituting just another linear tool for creating architecture from programmatic agendas, allows the architect to establish a decision-making field where negotiation can take place, which in turn empowers him in the process of city-building. |
