The  article presents first an  approach  to  the  relationship  between  cinema and other  artistic  practices, relation  best  known  as  intermediality,  then focuses  in the blank  slate as  a  narrative  artifice.  With the  blank  slate the  contemporary  cinema stages  the  immersion  of  the  artists  into  the  mental  processes  that  precede  the “birth” of their creations; pain, torment, and fluctuations of the unconscious are the cornerstone and  support  of  this  type of  narrative. Lastly, the  article  proposes a psychoanalytic reading of the film Naked Lunch(1991) by David Cronenberg. This work  takes  the  homonym  text  by  William  Burroughs  as its starting  point,  not necessarily  with  the  goal  of  adapting  its  contents  to  the filmic  image, but  with  the interest of going into the torment and the hallucinatory journey in which Burroughs was  during  10  years  to  end  up  “giving  birth”  one  of  the  most  radical  and experimental novels of the English Contemporary Literature.
