Descripción:This article explains the curricular potential of textbooks to promote student’s learning. Textbooks’ appreciation is an important strategy, regarding the contribution they can make to the conversion of the prescribed curriculum into the actual curriculum. When choosing textbooks which will be used during a school year, academic reasons must prevail, so it is necessary to weight all their attributes and characteristics such as quality criteria and those innovative factors that encourage intersection between curriculum and teacher’s performance in the classroom. As materials, textbooks represent a specific organization of the teaching process, based on a planning which supports their use and gives a transcendental meaning within the educational environment. The subject is faced from a curricular theory in which the curriculum is a bridge between theory and practice; and this link appears with the use of a textbook.
