Περιγραφή:During 2018 the National Seismological Network (RSN: UCR-ICE) located 3105 earthquakes, 2659 of them originated within Costa Rica. From the total located events, 278 (~10%) were felt earthquakes, including four significant earthquakes with magnitudes Mw between 5.7 and 6.2. The majority (92%) of the felt earthquakes were shallow (< 30 km) and 64 % had low magnitudes (Mw < 3.9). Local and regional faulting caused 64 % of the felt earthquakes and the remaining were originated by the subduction of the Cocos Plate. The geographic areas with the highest seismicity were located near Tenorio Volcano, and an area between Cartago and San Marcos de Tarrazú, and the Dulce Gulf. The highest Modified Mercalli intensity observed was VI, caused by the Golfito (6.2 Mw) earthquake.
