School education and COVID-19: Analysis from Social Work in Puerto Rico

Описание: | Introduction: A positive academic performance is usually a sign of academic success and increases the chances that a student will succeed in his professional future. However, a student's academic performance can be greatly affected by socioeconomic factors such as climate and family socioeconomic status. In 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic caused the closure of several schools in Puerto Rico, which mostly affected low-income students who even depend on the lunches offered at school to be able to eat adequately and on the equipment available in schools to be able to perform their tasks. Objective: Therefore, this article aims to discuss the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the education and school performance of students with a low socioeconomic level in Puerto Rico. Method: This article analyzed research, professional opinions, and media coverage that addressed the phenomenon of the COVID-19 pandemic and the impact it had on Puerto Rican schoolchildren.
