Original survey data from Chilean sample (N = 1267) are used to study the socio-demographic andpsychosocial determinants of beliefs about political forgiveness attitudes after the Chilean Dictatorship.A linear multiple regression analysis was carried out (R2 = .23) revealing the positive effect ofperceived apology sincerity (β = 0.24), emotions of anger (β = -0.17), social shared of emotions(β = 0.44), and institutional trust (β = 0.18). To lower levels of anger, higher institutional trust, sincerity and perceived efficacy of the institutional apologies, it corresponds a higher agreement withwhich the political violence victims will be able to forgive those who have hurt them in the past. |
