Popis:The anomalies of temperature, humidity, and wind in the troposphere and lower stratosphere over Paraguay are analyzed during the El Niño events of 1986-1987 and 1991-1992 and La Niña of 1988. The results do not agree fully with the findings of Aceituno (1989), since there is no evidence of a tropospheric warming in the summer of the mature phase of El Niño, and a cooling during La Niña. Nevertheless, a slight increase in wind speed during the winter of El Niño of 1987 is observed. The monthly anomalies of the height of the wet layer, height of the layer with potential instability, and the wind shear are also analyzed, in order to determine if they are related to the positive rainfall anomalies observed during El Niño events. There is a relationship between rainfall and the parameters favorable for the development of convection.
