| תיאור: | Zophobas morio is a beetle specie that can be a potential source for organic fertilizer production from its excreta. In the present work, lettuce seeds were used to evaluate both germination and phytotoxicity through indexes to compare the performance of two organic fertilizers, red worm vermicompost and Zophobas morio excreta. The best response was observed from the red worm vermicompost since it reported a high germination rate (112.45 ± 29.72%) compared to the response obtained by Zophobas morio excreta (25.74 ± 5.87%). Similarly, the indixes of normalized residual germination (IGN) and normalized residual root elongation (IERN) classified the worm vermicompost as a non-phytotoxic compound, while the zophobas extract showed an IGN classified as moderate toxicity and an IERN classified as very toxic. It was concluded that the differences observed between both fertilizers may be due to a higher value of electrical conductivity by the zophobas excreta. The effectiveness of the phytotoxicity method was demonstrated to evaluate the quality of organic fertilizers quickly and efficiently. |
