Descrizione:This article examines the evolution of mathematical language concerning the expression of irrational roots, with special emphasis onsquare root of 2. It traces its notation from antiquity to modern formalization, analyzes decimal-approximation methods, and discusses the cognitive conflicts that arise when reconciling symbolic exactness with finite representations. Finally, it reflects on the philosophical and pedagogical implications of this tension for understanding and teaching irrational numbers. The novelty of this study lies in integrating these historical, philosophical, and didactical perspectives into a replicable instructional model that supports the design of digital-based learning activities.
