Description:This study explores the relationship between success expectancy in mathematics, motivation towards mathematics, and unfavorable predisposition towards mathematics in a sample of 832 students from two public day schools in the Cartago Educational Region, Costa Rica. The variables were measured using two subscales of Fennema and Sherman (1976) and the EPMAT scale of Cerda et al. (2016). The results reveal high levels of success expectancy (96.8%) and motivation (61.8%), and low levels of unfavorable predisposition (36.6%), which is considered favorable. Significant differences were found in the three variables according to sex, with higher levels in women for success expectancy and motivation. No differences were found in any of the variables according to educational level. Finally, a positive and weak relationship was identified between success expectancy and motivation, and negative and weak relationships between success expectancy and unfavorable predisposition, as well as between motivation and unfavorable predisposition.
