Phytohormones and their impact on plant adaptation to salt stress: a review article

| Descrição: | Soil salinity represents a critical constraint on agricultural production worldwide, affecting plant growth, development, and yield. Faced with this type of stress, plants trigger a series of physiological, biochemical, and molecular responses that allow them to adapt. Among the main regulators of these responses are phytohormones, such as abscisic acid (ABA), ethylene, and auxins, which play essential roles in tolerance to saline conditions. ABA contributes to stomatal closure and regulates the expression of genes linked to water and salt stress. Ethylene, meanwhile, although traditionally associated with senescence processes, also participates in the regulation of ionic homeostasis and the activation of antioxidant mechanisms in tolerant plants. Auxins, meanwhile, promote the development of the root system and foster relationships with beneficial microorganisms, facilitating improved water and nutrient absorption. This review analyzes the interaction and signaling of these phytohormones in saline environments, highlighting the importance of understanding these processes to promote the development of biotechnological strategies aimed at improving crop tolerance in saline soils. |
