| الوصف: | Social housing solutions for informal settlements are frequently modified, expanded, or abandoned by the homeowners themselves, demonstrating a lack of understanding and appreciation of the demands of the beneficiary families. This article stems from the Final Graduation Project: Materialized Stories: An Instrument for the Morphological and Housing Evolution Analysis in Informal Settlements, applied to the Community of ‘Vida Nueva’ located in Concepción, La Unión, Cartago, Costa Rica. The analysis is conducted through data triangulation based on field record forms, semi-structured interviews with the families, and the review of institutional data. Through the case study analysis in the community of Vida Nueva, the research reveals a form of progressive self-construction that adapts to the evolving spatial needs of the families, as well as their technical and financial capacities over time, which leads to an understanding of housing as a verb rather than as a noun. The study concludes with 15 design guidelines aimed at informing the development of architectural solutions for informal settlements that are better suited to the needs, possibilities, and expectations of families in these communities. |
