الوصف:The relationship between morphological characteristics of the tacaco fruit was quantified.  Fruits from 22 tacaco accessions were collected, and the following characteristics were evaluated:  weight (g), length (mm), width (mm), thickness (mm), number of complete longitudinal sutures, number of incomplete longitudinal sutures, total number of longitudinal sutures, number of spines, length:width ratio, length:thickness ratio, and width:thickness ratio.  Spearman’s correlation was calculated for the relationship between all variables, and also for the relationship between the altitude of the collection site and the other variables.  Spineless and spiny tacaco accessions were compared using the Kruskal Wallis test.  Ten correlations were found between variables that were high (r≥0,63) and significant (p≤0,05).  A moderate positive correlation was found between altitude of the collection site and:  weight (r=0,40**), length (r=0,26**), width (r=0,32**) and thickness (r=0,38**) of the fruit.  Significant differences were found in 10 variables between spineless and spiny tacaco accessions.  It is concluded that, compared to spineless fruits, the spiny fruits showed significantly lower values in weight, length, width, thickness, length:width ratio and length:thickness ratio, and higher values in the number of incomplete longitudinal sutures, total number of longitudinal sutures, number of spines, and width:thickness ratio.  This work constitutes the first report on the study of the relationships between morphological characteristics of tacaco fruits.
