| Omschrijving: | Characterizing forest ecosystems is essential for understanding their natural dynamics. The main goal of this study was to characterize the floristic composition and structural attributes, describe the floristic diversity, and assess the influence of environmental factors on species distribution. Two permanent sampling plots (PSPs) of 0.25 hectares each were established. These were distributed in the areas of “El Triste” and “Cerro de las Iglesias,” along an elevation gradient between 2,700 and 3,035 m, within a temperate forest (TF) of the Chinatú ejido in Guadalupe y Calvo, Chihuahua, Mexico. Trees (ND) ≥ 7.5 cm were recorded. Six tree species were recorded, including Picea chihuahuana, endemic according to NOM-059-SEMARNAT-2010, and Pinus durangensis, listed as a species of special protection (Pr) on the IUCN Red List. The diversity indices of the PSPs are affected by low species richness, even though abundance is high in comparison with other forests in the country. Cluster analysis shows that the PSPs have 60.15% similarity. Overall, the horizontal structure shows that Pseudotsuga menziesii has the highest IVI (41.76%), followed by Picea chihuahuana (15.22%). The vertical structure, as measured by the Pretzsch Index (A), is 2.17 with an Amax of 2.89 and an Arel of 75.0%. Canonical Correspondence Analysis indicated that variables such as slope, leaf-litter cover, and elevation are influencing the distribution of tree species. The establishment of PSPs is fundamental for management and conservation. |
