Immigrant Nicaraguans in Costa Rica: Participation patterns in recreational activities

Diğer Bilgiler:In Costa Rica, Nicaraguan people constitute the largest immigrant group. This article reports the third and last part of the findings of a qualitative research that investigated how thirteen Nicaraguans who lived in the Costa Rican Metropolitan Area spend their spare time. The data reported was obtained through interviews. The findings of this phenomenological research are related to (1) three types of recreational activities not performed after migration, (2) four types of recreational activities in which participation was kept like in Nicaragua, (3) two types of recreational activities modified to continue doing them in Costa Rica, (4) five types of recreational activities started or re-started in Costa Rica because they were seldom performed in Nicaragua, and (5) two types of recreational activities in which people would like to participate in the future. In addition, the positive and negative effects of the change of country and its impact on the recreation of the interviewees are reported.
