Kuvaus:This essay analyzes recently published horror and science fiction narrative works in Honduras as critical explorations of current conditions and the future. The article provides a conceptual framework for understanding these narratives as the exercise of speculative imagination, divergent from conventional realism and rationalism, in which the impossible becomes possible, and whose figurations of being and events become explorations of the unknown, of the transformations and novelty brought about by the experience of historical time. The analysis shows how short stories and novels have been able to respond to events such as violence, social corruption, the beginning of a new millennium, the environmental crisis, and COVID-19, and have raised awareness of the experience of an epochal change.
