Descrizione:The objective of this article is to analyze, from the perspective of Marxist dependency theory, the dependency relations of the Viceroyalty of Nueva Granada. To this end, it examines the settlement enterprises and economic modernization projects promoted by the Spanish State during the Bourbon reformism in the second half of the 18th century. The study offers an explanation of the failure of these initiatives and the consequent underdevelopment of the viceregal capitals.
