Considering this, are the techniques based on Commedia dell’Arte valid to reach these current needs? Objective: To analyze improvisation and adaptation in the work of 16th-century Italian comedy actors in the creation of pedagogical proposals. Methods: Different quotidian and extra-quotidian techniques are identified in the practice of the contemporary actor. Based on the information obtained, improvisation and adaptation, elements usually found in the realist style, are studied within the dell’Arte universe. Results: The work of Italian comedy and that of the teachers who base their pedagogy on it foster the development of acting skills necessary in any technique. Conclusions: The study of dell’Arte characters is an effective pedagogical tool for professional contemporary actors.
