Descripción:Proper denture hygiene is one of the major predictors for the duration of rehabilitation treatment and the maintenance of oral mucosal health. Disinfectant solutions are often used as denture cleansers, yet their impact on acrylic resin-based dentures has been insufficiently investigated. This study aims to evaluate the effect of immersing heat cure acrylic denture base material in frankincense extract solution at different times intervals (24h and 72h) on the growth of Candida Albicans, micro-hardness and surface roughness. A total of ninety samples were prepared: 30 rectangular specimens (65×10×2.5 mm) intended for microhardness testing (n=30), and 60 disc-shaped specimens (10×2 mm) designated for antifungal activity and surface roughness measurements (n=30). For each test group, three further immersion periods were established: 10 samples per group (n=10). Sample size calculation was performed using G*Power. Data was first described and assessed for normal distribution, followed by parametric analyses with ANOVA and Tukey's HSD post hoc comparison and non-parametric analysis with the Kruskal–Wallis test followed by Dunn’s test. A significance level of < 0.05 was applied for all tests. In the result, there was an inhibition of Candida Albicans growth after immersion in frankincense extracts and a microhardness increase in the experimental groups compared to the control group regardless of immersion time. Additionally, the denture cleanser solution by frankincense extract also had a role in increasing surface roughness. To conclude, acrylic samples showed improved hardness and increased roughness which correlated with reduced fungal growth in all the specimens.
