| Beskrivelse: | Events such as Brexit and the election of Donald Trump in 2016 represent expressions of authoritarian populism that challenge liberal democracies. This article reviews the book How Democracy Ends by David Runciman, who argues that, although concerning, these phenomena do not signal the end of democracy. Unlike the 1930s, today’s democracies are largely peaceful, face different global threats, and are significantly influenced by tech corporations. Runciman explores alternatives such as epistocracy, but ultimately reaffirms that, despite its flaws, democracy remains the best available system. |
