Description:This paper offers some reflections on the ways in which ecological economics, in its various manifestations, approaches the ongoing ecological crisis. At the same time, it discusses the limits of that heterogeneous discipline by means of an analysis based on the concept of social metabolism that makes use of Jason Moore´s recent theorizations on the effects of capitalism on the environment.
