Linguistic attitudes and ideologies towards Guaymi: a case of cognitive dissonance

| Popis: | The objective of this research is to analyze, from a sociolinguistic perspective, the linguistic attitudes of the non-indigenous people of Conte, Puntarenas, Costa Rica, in order to determine whether they agree or disagree with the teaching of the Guaymi language in the educational centers of the area. The results are obtained through the application of an interview with twenty people from the Conte sector who have direct contact with the language in question. The information provided is analyzed taking into account the parameters of the qualitative approach.Finally, it is concluded that the sample interviewed shows, for the most part, a series of positive attitudes towards the guaymi language, its teaching and the indigenous group that speaks it. Only one negative attitude was expressed: that of considering guaymi as a dialect and not as a language. |
