Description: | Juan Manuel Sánchez (1907-1990) is a Costa Rican artist remembered due to his drawings. He was in charged of Luis Ferrero, Lilia Ramos, Emma Gamboa, Carlos Luis Sáenz, Fabián Dobles’s book’s illustrations. The most famous and well-known images are the ones that he made for Cuentos de mi tía Panchita -a children’s short stories book- by Carmen Lyra. This artist shines using synthetic lines, particularly when drawing animals, human figures, and spaces. This paper analyses the line synthesis used by Juan Manuel Sánchez to suggest the form of the figures. The illustrations used in this analysis belong to the collection of the Museo de Arte Costarricense. |
