Descripció:National libraries are institutions with the mission of organizing, safeguarding and disseminating the bibliographic and documentary heritage of a nation. In the particular case of the National Library of Mexico (BNM), as it belongs to the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), it cannot carry out some of its basic responsibilities and stand out as a library service system par excellence and at a national level. The objective of this document is to analyze the problem and the reasons why the BNM does not fully exercise the functions of the National Bibliographic Entity. Through the documentary analysis method and the document review and selection technique, the challenges faced by the library to comply with said regulations and laws are announced, for example, to ensure the Legal Deposit Law or manage the offices of the ISBN and ISSN. On the other hand, some opinions on this problem are analyzed by some authors from the library field and discusses as a position against the dilemma that the BNM is administered by the government or that it continues to be part of the UNAM although with the implementation of some measures to improve compliance with its obligations.
