Popis:Objective. To validate and present normative data for the Brief Aphasia Assessment Protocol (PEBA). The PEBA is a bedside Spanish-language screening tool for language assessment, designed for use in hospitalized patients during the acute phase, and developed within a cognitive neuropsychology framework. Method. A total of 23 patients with aphasia (left-sided stroke) and 177 individuals without brain injury (CG) were evaluated. Performance comparisons, clinical validity studies, reliability analysis, and the development of normative data for the Argentine population were conducted. Results. The CG showed near-ceiling performance, except in Writing, where an effect of educational level was observed. Patients performed significantly worse compared to the CG. Acceptable reliability indicators were obtained. Normative data were stratified by educational level. The PEBA is a valid and reliable instrument for the assessment of patients in the acute poststroke phase. Future studies with larger patient samples will be essential to confirm these findings and further support the use of the test.
