Theoretical influences on Carl Rogers: a historical and conceptual review

| Deskribapena: | Carl Rogers’s ideas are generally well known in the field of psychology; however, there are few publications in Spanish that examine his influences. Accordingly, this article seeks to describe the principal authors and theories that shaped the development of his perspective. To this end, it first introduces the notion of humanistic psychology, then explores functionalist psychology, neo-Freudian psychoanalysis, Gestalt psychology, and authors such as Andras Angyal, Kurt Goldstein, and Abraham Maslow. It concludes by underscoring the relevance of investigating the theoretical foundations in order to understand theoretical constructs in greater depth—specifically, those of the person-centered approach. |
