Opening the "Matrioshka": An Analysis of Bárbara Hoyo’s Maternal Narrative

| Descripció: | This paper analyzes the poem Matriochika by Mexican columnist Bárbara Hoyo (2020), who systematizes her experiences of motherhood, the body, and emotions in the text. Drawing on Michel Foucault’s (2021) concepts of confession and Judith Butler’s (2009) concepts of narrative and giving an account of oneself, it examines how the author understands the maternal experience and the type of narrative she constructs. Furthermore, it reflects on the importance of literature written by women within feminist thought, as well as the relationship between such literature and the production of critical and subversive gender identities, thereby giving voice to women writers while also making visible the diversity of experiences surrounding motherhood. From this perspective, it seeks to move beyond anecdotal views of motherhood by proposing, through literature, interpretive, epistemological, and political approaches grounded in feminist and gender perspective that make visible a polyphonic, critical, and rebellious maternal narrative. |
