Beskrivelse:This study explores the linguistic vitality of Limonese Creole, a creole language still spoken by some members of the Afro-descendant community in the province of Limón, Costa Rica. Utilizing a combination of methodologies that include in-depth interviews, focus groups, and participant observation, the research assesses the linguistic vitality of Limonese Creole, the attitudes of its speakers toward their language and culture, as well as the challenges it faces in the modern context. The findings demonstrate the need to revitalize the language to preserve it as a vital part of the community's cultural identity. If immediate actions are not taken to safeguard the language, it will disappear or reach a state of irreversible obsolescence in less than two generations.
