Analysis of Ancestral Construction Systems in Heritage Homes of Bahía de Caráquez: Adaptation and Cultural Preservation in Contemporary Architecture

实物特征:This study addresses an approach to the preservation and adaptation of ancestral construction systems in the heritage homes of Bahía de Caráquez, Ecuador. Through a mixed methodology, mainly documentary research, field observation and experimental analysis, the physical and mechanical properties of the materials used in the reproduction of these ancestral construction systems were identified and described. Four representative homes were selected to evaluate the applicability of these systems in contemporary architectural design. The results highlight that traditional techniques, such as the use of bahareque and guadua cane, offer significant advantages in terms of sustainability, thermal comfort and cultural connection with the environment. However, limitations related to durability and maintenance are identified, which can be mitigated through the integration of modern materials and the development of public policies aimed at conservation. Therefore, the combination of ancestral and contemporary approaches not only improves the functionality and structural safety of buildings, but also promotes local economic development and strengthens cultural identity. The implementation of educational programs and demonstration projects is proposed as a strategy to encourage the use of these techniques, ensuring their relevance and viability in the architectural context and sustainability in the built environment.
