Descripción:This article presents the fundamental political and economic features of the Central American history cycle between 1944 and 1979. Here, the period’s two most relevant topics —democracy and the fast development of capitalism— are analyzed under the interpretative stance that points to internal political factors as the ultimate influence to understanding the abortion of the democratic option, and the concentrating and excluding economic growth of the region, with the exception of Costa Rica. The external factors, both economic and political, are understood as conditioning and not as determining factors.
