Use of silver compounds in animal production and their impact on physiological parameters: A review.

Описание:Bacterial resistance to different antibiotics has generated interest in the research for alternatives to their use. The advancement of nanotechnology developed nanoparticles of different metals, including silver. With variations in size and surface area, these nanoparticles are more effective and less toxic than previously used silver compounds. Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) act against bacteria, fungi, ticks, and larvae; however, most of the tests have been carried out in vitro. Different methods of synthesis of AgNPs generate variations in the results of the tests, so it is not possible to recommend an adequate dose range based on the existing information. This review aimed to assess AgNPs as an improving agent in the productive systems of animals of zootechnical interest defining the relationship between the applied concentration and the response of different agents that affect the health of animals. A total of 142 scientific articles were consulted in various databases, grouped into aquaculture, poultry, bacterium, fungi, ticks, and mosquitoes. Based on this study, in vivo tests are recommended to ensure that the activity attributed to the AgNPs is maintained in daily use in animal production as well as to repeat studies with the same synthesis methods to unify and compare the information.
