Περιγραφή:This article analyzes the painting Allegory of coffee and bananas by italian painter Aleardo Villa. It studies the socio-historical context in which the painting was produced, as well as the social imaginaries that the image represents. The article contains three sections: the first one, addresses the importance of the National Theater’s inauguration and its link to the painting; the second one, contains an iconographic analysis of the Allegory; and, in closing, the paper approaches the perspective of the incorporation of this oil painting into the five colones bill.
