The celebration of Holy Week in Costa Rica during the second half of the 20th century: Religious sociability and disruptions to everyday life

| Popis: | This article studies the celebration of Holy Week (Easter) in Costa Rica during the second half of the 20th century. It aims to analyze the implications this religious holiday had on Costa Ricans’ quotidian time management and the construction of sociability means developed in the context of the planning and execution of the solemnities. The study begins with a press review analysis of content, and it revealed that Holy Week created an interruption in the quotidian life of the population, causing alteration in areas such as work, market, and mobility. Also, the results showed that Holy Week rituals underwent transformations over time and that they worked as a space for interaction among the people involved in the organization of the activities, as also for other participants not related to organization. |
