Omschrijving:Introduction: With population growth and technological and scientific advances in the health field, chronic non-communicable and degenerative diseases have become increasingly common. However, palliative care is still poorly integrated into the Unified Health System, reflecting the low utilization of this service in hospitals, in addition to the shortage of qualified professionals in this area, which makes it difficult to provide adequate care to patients. Objective: This study aims to describe the perception of the multidisciplinary team regarding the palliative care service and the care provided to patients receiving palliative care. Methods: This is an exploratory descriptive study with a qualitative approach, conducted between December 2022 and February 2023, involving the management team, consulting team, and multidisciplinary team involved in the care of patients receiving palliative care at a hospital in the interior of Bahia. The analysis was conducted using IRAMUTEQ through Descending Hierarchical Classification (DHC). Results: Based on the central idea of describing the multidisciplinary team's perception regarding the implementation of the palliative care center and the care provided to patients receiving palliative care, four classes were identified after processing the results: challenges faced by the multidisciplinary team in palliative care; exclusion or inclusion: where to provide care?; implementation of the palliative care committee: the story as told by the management and consulting team; and practice: the role of the multidisciplinary team in palliative care. Conclusion: Challenges were identified, including a shortage of dedicated beds and a lack of knowledge among professionals. In addition, the workload faced by the consulting team, among other factors, negatively affects the quality and scope of the concept inherent to palliative care.
