Descrizione:Remains of Toxodon were discovered in the year 1934 by professor Alberto Brenes at the site of San Miguel de San Ramón, in the province of Alajuela. The sample pertains to a specimen of Mixotoxodon larensis van Franck, 1957. It has been housed at the National Museum of Costa Rica. This species is common in the region between Honduras and El Salvador, down to the northem part of Venezuela and Colombia. It is clear that M. larensis was a species widespread in the Central American region, but it is also obvious that its origin is in South America. Its remains are frequently found in Central America and its first discovery was described by Leydi in 1986, who classifled it as belonging to the genus Toxodon.
