| Cur Síos: | The contention in this paper is that a necessary connection can be found in the chronological series of approaches to development as growth, equity, basic-needs satisfaction, sustainability and capabilities. Special emphasis is given to two of them: growth and basic-needs satisfaction. To strengthen the reasoning in favor of the last, we propose to see the plight of those at the bottom as similar to a disaster or an emergency. |
