Disgrifiad: | The present essay problematizes the notion of “civic-military dictatorship” applied to the recent history of Chile and its relation to the idea of "Chilean exceptionalism". It also highlights the role of the armed forces in state building processes of Latin American nations and specifies this aspect in Chilean State from the perspective of long duration, to show the continuity of the military element in the reproduction of social relations between the sixteenth and twentieth centuries.
