ILLICIT CROPS, CRIMINAL FRAGMENTATION AND HOMICIDES IN THE STATE OF GUERRERO, MEXICO

實物特徵:One of the main causes of instability in Mexico is the violence linked to drugproduction and trafficking. Within the different illegal markets, poppy’s productionis one with an increasing relevance due to the proliferation of international opiateconsumption. This article analyzes the relationship between homicides and poppy’sproduction in 46 municipalities in the state of Guerrero. The research also includesthe variables of criminal fragmentation and social lag. The analysis is conducted frombivariate correlations evidencing a negative association between homicides, illegalcrops, and social lag, while being positive with criminal fragmentation. Conclusionsreflect the relevance of different criminal organizations fighting to control a territory asan explicative element of violence in Mexico.
