Miêu tả:In this article, the Guastomatal site located in Mansión of Nicoya is analyzed, with novel characteristics in the archaeological record of northwestern Costa Rica. The architecture of the site includes two elevated foundations and a U-shape plaza confined by stonewalls; features whose similarity is established with the Central Caribbean territory of Costa Rica. The common denominator is a residential/assembly pattern postulated in the present article. Guastomatal shows landscape attributes that stand out in its location. Clues of a formalized road, and earthen ridges for probable palisades are part of the findings, as well as deposits attributable to a chipped-stone workshop and a midden. At the current level of knowledge, the site is preliminarily dated to 600-900 C.E., on the bases of ceramic and architectural correlation. The characteristics of Guastomatal give meaning to a site of limited monumentality with upstanding landscape symbolism, that we linked to administrative-religious activities of chieftain status.
