Miêu tả:Introduction: Depression is a mood disorder of higher incidence in older adults, it has been diagnosed that this population is more likely to present suicidal ideation. A detailed detection of depressive symptoms will allow the establishment of appropriate preventive actions and understanding of this disorder associated with suicidal ideation. Methods: We evaluated 93 adults over 60 years old, using the Yesavage geriatric depression scale, Beck suicidal ideation scale and a checklist of depressive symptomatology. Results: The prevalence of older adults with suicidal ideation was 40.9% (n = 38), and in relation to depression 57.0% (n = 53), the association of depression with suicidal ideation was 76.3% (n = 29), depressive symptoms with a greater impact of p <0.001 in older adults with suicidal ideation were: same emotional state during the day and changes between days, concentration, depression as punishment and feeling of suicide. Conclusions: The timely detection of depressive symptomatology in normal aging will allow to identify the predictors of suicide, to implement strategies to prevent fatal outcomes.
