Descripción:This article addresses the Recognition and Affirmation Initiatives that have been generated for the sexual and gender diversity, at the University of Costa Rica. There are mentioned institutional regulations issued by the university’s main authorities (the University Council and the Rectory), as well as specific actions developed by LGBTIQ+ professors, students, and administrative staff. All the generated initiatives are a result of the LGBTIQ+ people’s work, even the official regulations promulgated by the authorities. Also, significant tensions and limitations that obstruct the work are found. For the university as an institution, some questions are posed regarding the real implementation of its policies.
