Evaluation of the scientific output of a science, technology and innovation institution

| الوصف: | Introduction: Scientific research is crucial for the advancement of knowledge, and therefore the work carried out in science, technology, and innovation entities acquires special relevance. Analyzing research performance in these communities constitutes a latent need. Information Science offers analytical tools such as metric disciplines, due to their usefulness in the study of scientific production. Objective: To identify bibliometrics indicators that allow characterizing science, technology, and innovation entities. Methodology: A documentary analysis of various sources of information done for the bibliographic compilation in the elaboration of the conceptual theoretical framework. At the same time was developed the analysis and synthesis of different theoretical-methodological approaches to the evaluation of science, addressing theoretical-conceptual criteria. Results and discussion: A system of indicators is presented that covers the areas of activity, production, and collaboration, a perspective for assessing the performance of a given entity based on its scientific production. This was made possible by analyzing previously applied evaluation methods, which revealed shortcomings that make it difficult to identify research patterns, assess collaboration between researchers and institutions, and improve decision-making. Conclusions: The theoretical and methodological foundation for the evaluation of an entity revealed trends in the evaluation. At the same time, it allowed for the establishment of an analytical position with an ideal approach and indicators for understanding scientific performance. The proposal, which can be used as a complement to other evaluation bodies, is beneficial because it facilitates the quantification of results and the exploration of research trends and scientific leaders. |
