| Beskrivelse: | This state of the art article critically periodizes the historiography on Masonic sociability in Chile (1850-1950) into three distinct moments: apologetic narratives and anti-Masonic polemics (19th century-1950), biographical and institutional studies (1970-1990), and historiographic renewal under the influence of social and cultural history (2000-present). I examine the theoretical frameworks employed, the privileged sources, and the conceptual debates on modern sociability, cultural modernization, and the democratic role attributed to Chilean Freemasonry. I identify persistent research gaps: scarce analysis of primary sources, limited territorial coverage beyond Santiago, Valparaíso, and Concepción, and insufficient problematization of analytical categories and of the Order's internal contradictions. |
