| Descrizione: | The present study aims to describe, analyze and interpret the metonymies and metaphors present in Peruvian dessert names from the perspective of cognitive linguistics. Based on a qualitative approach, a corpus of 42 names of desserts consumed in Peru was elaborated. It was found that the predominant type of metaphor to nominate desserts was that of image; that is, there is a strong motivation to designate desserts based on their form of presentation. In addition, metonymies show how the name of a dessert can be motivated either by one of its base ingredients, by its texture, by its preparation technique (part-all). The research shows that these linguistic resources facilitate the comprehension of the gastronomic product by evoking familiar images and sensations, as well as suggesting a sensory experience to the consumer. |
