Описание:The State of Jalisco has a rugged rural plateau with poor lands and few water sources, located at more than 1,800 m a.s.l. This rural area was recognized since the viceregal period as Los Altos de Jalisco. The objective is to show how the first mercedes were characterized in the central subregion of El Alto, of the kingdom of New Galicia, in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, and how rural private property was configured in the area. Methodologically, primary sources and specialized literature have been used, surface prospecting has been carried out and digital information systems referring to satellite cartography have been employed. The results show a geographical space occupied by rural properties defined by their use as cattle ranches and land horses, whose measurements configured areas of mosaics or canvases of land, while the haciendas had different sizes and shapes. As for the limitations, not enough archival documents were located that show the distribution of the mercedes in northern areas to what was worked.
