Description:Today the international system undergoes a critical change in its composition. The economic crisis bowed down the United States, a country indebted due to its commitments to maintain its status in a unipolar world. However, the world now witnesses the growth of new powers that will change the face of the international system. For this reason, after reviewing the failure of American exceptionalism and neo-conservadurism, we will propose that the world is now undergoing a process of reconfiguration, akin to that which occurred at the end of the XIX Century. In this context, the United States today is at a crossroads: to play within a more horizontal and uncertain world no longer as a superpower or make a risky bet against the chaos of an increasingly precarious excepcionalism, and in doing so, risking a spiral into political and economic anarchy.
